Responsible in everything we do…

Responsibility

At Fallowdale Homes, we don't create identikit homes. That means we don't believe in having a one-size-fits-all sustainability strategy either.

Instead, we work within the constraints of our sites to carefully weave environmentally responsible designs and features into the very fabric of our developments, rescuing abandoned structures from demolition, bringing new communities to formerly unloved urban areas and transforming wasteland into havens for families and wildlife alike.

We embrace new technology to meet the needs of the families living in our homes. Whether it's trialling cutting-edge learning thermostats in our city centre homes at St Leonards Place, installing electric vehicle charging points at our 112-home heritage village at Stonebridge Beck or adding carefully controlled LED external lighting to our shared spaces, we're always looking for new ways to integrate sustainable new technologies into our developments.

Because transport is key to residential developments, we always look to build in sustainable locations that provide our residents with easy access to work, schools, shopping and both regional and national transport infrastructure. Then we set out to make them even more sustainable.

At Stonebridge Beck, just a short bike ride from Leeds city centre, we have invested in improving pedestrian links to the local bus stops. At St Leonards Place, we have invested in improving the bus stop for the benefit of all users. All our developments in Leeds city centre, such as 51 Great George Street and Brewery Wharf, were selected because of the easy access to the city centre they provide to residents.

Going forward, we're looking to make our current Stonebridge Beck development an exemplar for reuse of existing natural materials and provision of green space as we further deepen our commitment to environmentally responsible development.

Working with our contractors and specialist tradesmen, we saved derelict mill buildings from destruction, created a large public park running along Wortley Beck, installed extensive playground equipment, linked the retained elements of the mill pond through to our new hillside woodland reserve and planted many new native trees throughout the development.

And it’s not just people these homes are created for either - we've been working with ecologists to create shelters, and breeding and foraging grounds for birds, amphibians and invertebrates too. We've even created wildflower grasslands, scrape pools and bat, sparrow and swift boxes throughout the village, transforming the area into a sanctuary for both flora and fauna.

Regeneration in Action

Stonebridge Beck

A Grade II listed former mill building which has been converted into spacious mill townhouses, as well as the original worker’s cottages and workshops which have been sympathetically converted to provide wonderful new homes.
